Great Eastern Cutlery produces three distinct lines of knives: The Tidioute brand is the basic pattern with satin finish 1095 carbon steel blades and smooth bolsters; it is the “no frills” line.
The Northfield brand is produced in the same patterns and is 1095 carbon steel, but has all the “bells and whistles” including swedged & polished blades, long pull nail nicks, lined and pinched bolsters, and is available in premium handle materials including stag. 1095 carbon steel is the same steel traditionally used by cutlers for decades. It is precision ground and tempered to hold an edge, but still be easy to re-sharpen.
The Great Eastern brand is the stainless steel line where the blades are ground from 440C stainless steel. Don’t confuse 440C with the cheaper and softer 440A that other companies tend to use, as 440C is a premium stainless! It has great edge holding ability and temper on a par with 1095, but less prone to staining and corrosion.
The skilled craftsmen at GEC perform over 200 hand operations to produce each knife. The end product is a unique heirloom quality piece you will be proud to own or gift.
